Dr. Bixenman grew up in London, Ontario, Canada and attended the University of Western Ontario (UWO) in London. He received his B.A. degree there, attended the UWO Medical School, and graduated with his M.D. in 1974. After two years in Internal Medicine & Neurology, he switched to Ophthalmology and completed his residency in 1979. A fellowship followed in Pediatric Ophthalmology & Oculomotility at Baylor (Texas Children’s Hospital) in Houston, TX (1979-1980).
Dr. Bixenman has been in clinical practice in Tucson since 1980 and has subspecialized in Strabismus and Neuro-Ophthalmology. He is Board Certified (1981) in Ophthalmology and is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Depts. Of Ophthalmology and Neurology at UMC/Banner Medical Ctr, lecturing in his subspecialty of Neuro-Ophthalmology. As for outside interests, he is a NAUI-certified SCUBA Divemaster/Assistant Instructor and is a Level II NSCA sporting clays instructor. Weekends often include his riding his DUCATIs.
